A hilltop of colour, stone and long memory.
Labin’s historic core rewards slow walking. Pass through Porta Sanfior and the scale changes immediately: lanes narrow, façades lean toward one another and glimpses of the Kvarner open between roofs. Albona, Labin’s old name, is recorded as early as 285 AD.
The Town Museum sits in the Baroque Battiala-Lazzarini Palace and contains one of the town’s most memorable interpretations of its industrial past: a miniature coal mine. Around it, churches, palaces, studios and the Fortica viewpoint turn a short walk into several different stories.
- Porta Sanfior — the historic gate into the old town.
- Town Museum — archaeology, local history and the mining story.
- Bell tower — Labin’s most recognizable vertical landmark.
- Fortica — the classic viewpoint toward Rabac and Cres.
- Art ateliers — a living creative layer inside the historic fabric.
